This Privacy Notice provides information regarding the processing of your personal data when using services and/or purchasing products from the National Book Store Group ("NBS" or "we") whether as a retail customer, whether in a brick-and-mortar store or online store, institutional customer, a visitor of an NBS website, a caller of or sender of a message to any NBS hotline, a member of the Laking National loyalty program, and/or a participant of an NBS marketing promotion and/or event. What personal data do we process?

We collect and process information, including personal data about you, as retail customer, whether in a brick-and-mortar store or online store, institutional customer, a visitor of an NBS website, a caller of or a sender of a message to any NBS hotline, a member of the Laking National loyalty program and/or a participant of an NBS marketing promotion and/or event. This information may be either information that you provide to us, information that we obtain through your use of NBS services and/or information about your participation In the Laking National Card loyalty program or any NBS marketing promotion or event.

You may opt out of the processing of your personal data for this purposes at any time.

How we collect, acquire or generate your data?

When you fill-out the following:

Laking National Registration Form;
Customer accreditation form;
Registration forms in events;
Shipping/delivery information form online or through any of our hotline numbers;
Raffle entry coupons;

When you enter our stores and your movement within the stores is captured by surveillance cameras (CCTV);
When you provide your credit card for payment and the transaction slip is generated for our processing;

How we protect your personal data?

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect.

We keep and protect your personal data using a secured server behind a firewall, deploying encryption on computing devices and physical security controls.
To the extent that certain information are not digitized, we keep and protect your information by keeping them out of sight of unauthorized personnel and third parties and kept in a locked receptacle as soon as possible.
We restrict access to your personal data only to qualified and authorized personnel who hold your personal data with strict confidentiality.
It is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your Laking National Card, your password and/or to your computer or gadget. Be sure to sign-off when finished using a shared computer.

How and who we share your personal data with?

As a general rule, we are not allowed to share your data to a third party except in limited circumstances as listed below. Personal data will only be shared on a strict need to know basis and solely to complete the process for the purposes mentioned above with the following:

NBS affiliates and subsidiaries;
Authorized third party partners, service providers and/or subcontractors that may supply products and/or services to customers, such as cloud storage providers and logistics service providers;
Authorized service providers involved in mobile payment or digital payment platforms (such as PayMaya, GCASH or Globe Rewards);
Authorized publishers and vendors participating in NBS events, promos and raffle draws;
With your express consent;
When we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to enforce our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, and safeguard, deter, and investigate against illegal, fraudulent, or unauthorized actions in relation to the business of NBS or use of the NBS websites; and

Organizational, contractual and legal measures have been implemented to safeguard your personal data and ensure that adequate levels of protection are followed when transferring personal data within NBS or to authorized third party partners, service providers, subcontractors and/or government, regulatory authorities or agencies. Non-disclosure and data sharing agreements with the secured data transfer mechanisms are executed to ensure compliance with the applicable laws and regulations and set measures.

What is our Privacy Policy regarding children?

NBS is very sensitive to privacy issues and it is especially careful in its communications with children. NBS will never directly collect personal data from children under the age of 18 without the parent's consent.

Meanwhile, we urge parents to regularly monitor and supervise their children's on-line activities.

How long do we keep your personal data?

All personal data relevant with NBS customers will be retained following the standards below:

Customers with existing contract and/or registration and have transactions with NBS - the information will be retained all throughout the contract period and 10 years after the termination of the contract (e.g., information relating to Laking National loyalty program membership, customer accreditation for institutional customers, account registrations on our websites, etc.).
Customers with no existing contract and/or registration but have existing transactions with NBS - the information will be retained for 5 years after fulfillment of the transactions (e.g., customer credit card payment slip, information on winners of raffle draws, etc.)
Customers with no existing contract and/or registration and transaction with NBS - the information will be retained for a period of 2 years from the date it was provided to NBS.

Your personal data are retained in accordance with the above said parameters, industry standards, laws and regulations, unless you request that your personal data be deleted from our systems, databases and hard copies immediately. Once deleted, your personal data will no longer be searchable or included in anonymous searches and will be completely removed from all storage locations.

How can I access my personal data?

Personal data of customers can be accessed through the following:

Logging in the NBS website at https://www.nationalbookstore.com/ and accessing their accounts; or
Calling or sending a message to our Data Protection Officer. The Data Privacy Officer may, however, choose not to grant access or correct information based on the request following laws and regulations. He/she will give the individual a written notice that sets out the reason/s for the refusal.

Customers may register for FREE at lakingnational.com by downloading the Laking National app in Google Play Store. App App Store or Huawei App Gallery.

Earning of Sulit Coins

Laking National members can earn points, called Sulit Coins, for every purchase of qualified items at any branch of National Book Store, NBS Express, Art Bar, Kids Ink, www.nationalbookstore.com, the official marketplace shops of National Book Store in Lazada, Shopee, TikTok and Zalora, and official stores on on-demand delivery apps of Foodpanda, GrabMart, Metromart, Pickaroo, Malldash and SM Online.

Sulit Coins are earned equivalent to 1% of the total purchase amount of valid items

There are two ways to earn Sulit Coins:
- In-Store purchase - At the start of every transaction, members must present their Laking National QR to the cashier at any NBS, NBS Express, Art Bar, Kids Inc. branch.
- Online purchase - Laking National members may log-in at lakingnational.nationalbookstore.com.ph or via Laking National app where they can enter the sales invoice number and amount of their purchase from any NBS online store.

Laking National members will not earn Sulit Coins upon your purchase if they fail to present their Laking National QR upon payment.

Redemption of Sulit Coins

The Sulit Coins earned may be redeemed and used to pay for any product or service within the NBS Group except (1) NBS Gift Cards and (2) other items or services that NBS, at its sole discretion, may exclude from redemption. Once redeemed, Sulit Coins can no longer be credited back or changed and the items bought using the redeemed Sulit Coins shall not be exchanged or subject to a refund unless there is a defect in the quality of those items at the time of sale.

Sulit Coins can be redeemed in increments of P1.00.

Without any prior notice, the NBS Group reserves the right to (1) adjust the Sulit Coins earned for the total purchase and (2) deduct the appropriate number of Sulit Coins arising from corresponding transactions, including, but not limited to, returned products.

The Laking National members' accrued Sulit Coins reflected in the records of NBS shall be deemed as true and correct. Should any conflict or question arise, the Laking National Member unequivocally agrees that the records of NBS shall take absolute precedence and that the decision of NBS shall be deemed final.

NBS reserves the right to change the minimum redemption amount, the exchange rate of Sulit Coins, qualified items, and transactions for redemption, including the qualified payment methods for Laking National, without any prior notice.

Expiration of Sulit Coins

Laking National and Laking National Plus Sulit Coins automatically expire yearly every 30th of April BUT membership in the Laking National program does not expire. NBS will notify the member via email notifications and receipt footer messages at each period until the expiry of their Sulit Coins:

Laking National Plus is an upgraded Laking National that entitles a member to:

Earn coins from purchases of products as indicated in the "Earning of Sulit Coins" section above.

There are three (3) ways to become a Laking National Plus member:

The customer must pay the PHP500 membership fee at any National Book Store branch. Membership in Laking National Plus is valid for three (3) years. (Refer to the "Expiration of Sulit Coins" section for the Sulit Coins expiry.)
The customer will get a FREE upgrade to Laking National Plus valid for one (1) year when you spend a minimum of P20,000 within one (1) year.
The Laking National members with active / unexpired cards and courtesy cards with expiration dates beginning in 2016 will be automatically upgraded* to Laking National Plus for one (1) year.
*Upgrade will become effective in November 2022 upon surrender of the active / unexpired card or courtesy card in any NBS store.

There are two (2) ways to renew an Laking National Plus membership:

Members must pay the PHP500 membership fee at any National Book Store branch for the renewal of membership.
Spend a minimum of PHP20,000 within one (1) year before the expiration of the membership.
- Any excess spend in the current validity period will earn Sulit Coins but will NOT be carried over to the next validity period.

The Laking National Plus discount may NOT be used in conjunction with other discounts, promotions, or on markdown items (Example: bank discount promo, senior or PWD discount). In the purchase of goods and services which are already on a promotional discount, the member can avail of the promotional discount or the discount provided through Laking National Plus, whichever is higher.

Other Terms and Conditions

The Sulit Coins reflected in the records of the NBS Group shall be deemed correct. Should any conflict or question arise, the member agrees that the records and the decision of the NBS Group shall be deemed final.

Membership in the Laking National Program may be revoked at any time by the NBS Group, at its sole discretion, in the event of abuse, fraud, deception, an attempt to compromise the program's security, violation of any of the terms and conditions or any other act prejudicial to the NBS Group or the Program. Members whose QRs are revoked are ineligible to receive the rights and benefits of the Program.

The Laking National member warrants that he/she will not attempt or cause to attempt to compromise the security of the Program in any way.

The NBS Group reserves the right to unilaterally change these Terms and Conditions at any time without having to inform the members individually and without any right to compensation for the members. All modifications in these Terms and Conditions shall be published at [lakingnational.nationalbookstore.com]. Members' use of the QR after a modification in these Terms and Conditions on the website shall imply acceptance of the revised Terms and Conditions. If a member does not accept the changes, he/she is advised to inform the NBS Group by email of the termination of membership so that NBS can deactivate their Laking National.

The QR is issued to natural persons by the NBS Group. The QR is strictly personal and non-transferable. Membership is not open to corporate entities or employees of the NBS Group and their relatives within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity.

The NBS Group, at its sole discretion and without notice, reserves the right to terminate the Program at any time. In the event of termination, all coins, awards or privileges that may have been earned will be terminated. The remaining coins on the QR must be used by the member within ninety (90) days from the Program's official date of termination.

The NBS Group respects data privacy and recognizes the need for appropriate protection and management of personal information that has been directly and voluntarily entrusted to the NBS Group. The NBS Group has developed its Privacy Policy in order to protect its customers' personal data in accordance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA), its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), and other issuances of the National Privacy Commission (NPC) in relation thereto.
